Creativity is messy. It is not just a creative process but a process of destruction. We forget, when we are in the creative zone, about this. Bring your awareness to what you are erasing, covering, cutting, releasing, and blending. All of these are destructive processes.

Creativity is messy because we are modifying our reality with the tools of our creativity. These tools can be paint, clay, pencil, marker, fabric, wood, metal, words, feelings, movement, etc. Our tools are infinite in their variety.

Creativity is messy because we travel into the void space of our being and coalesce form in the potentiality we find there. It is divisive and unifying. It is hardness and softness. Repulsion and attraction. It is duality and non-duality.

Creativity is messy because we are asked, as creators, to move from our comfort zone into our inspired zone. It can feel uncertain and very uncomfortable. It invites the gremlins of ‘not enoughness,’ and ‘failure’ to fuel our fears and inform our ecstatic joy when we finish our creation.

Where will you get messy today? What are you creating? Let your inner child create with abandon and enjoy the mess!
