It is a great question. What do you do for self-care? Are you thinking of indulging in a spa day or having a mani/pedi or going to the hairdresser? All those things are wonderful if you are able to do them. There are some things you can do closer to home that won’t put you out-of-pocket, too.
Perhaps listening to some of your favorite music, singing, dancing, laughing, or lighting a candle and meditating, or taking a beautiful bath filled with essential oils and having a bit of aromatherapy while you are at it would be ideal for you. If not that, there is having a nap, putting on your favorite cozy clothes, enjoying your favorite hot liquid, and just relaxing.
There is also the practice of coming up with supportive statements that are easy to remember. Some call them affirmations. I call them Declarations of Power. You can make them the reasons you do what you do – this is also known as your big why (values – because statements), what you believe about yourself (beliefs – I am statements) and even what you believe you are capable of doing and being (capabilities/skills – I can statements). Customize them to you. Make them supportive, encouraging, and fun.
Life is too short for anything but self-care. The more you appreciate and believe in yourself, the more you care for and love yourself, the more you will be resourceful and productive, and have the energy for others. So, what do you do for self-care?
